EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

The TL is a sophisticated package from engine to cabin. It's only major shortcoming is its smallish rear seat.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

If BMW made a front-driver, it might drive like this one. Acceleration is strong thanks to a 3.2 liter-V6 - which can be paired to a six-speed manual transmission. Handling is confidence-inspiring, but not class leading. The "Type-S" trim level also returns this year with a 286-horsepower, 3.5-liter version of Acura's SOHC 32-valve VTEC-equipped V6.

Comfort

RATING

The TL has a sporty feel, with somewhat firm ride calibration and an intimate cockpit. The rear seat is especially tight.

Function

RATING

In an attempt to be sophisticated and techie, the TL's interior insteads presents the driver with a complicated-looking array of buttons and controls.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

The TL is attractively styled, with a distinctive character line running front to back. Build quality and interior materials are top-notch.
